News & Events One of our very own boa constrictors, Kontesssa, is now our most famous snake. The "Coop" borrowed her during his opening performance for the Rolling Stones on the Halifax Commons. January 23, 2006: Wee Wisdom Nursery School Show John and I held two hour long shows today for some tiny tykes, their teachers and parents. Reporter Stacey Colwell of Bridgewater's Lighthouse joined us in the afternoon, camera in hand. December 14, 2005: Bridgewater Lighthouse: "Nothing to be scared of" On November 14, we were interviewed by a Lighthouse reporter, Stacey Colwell. Today it appeared in the Community Focus section. November 9, 2005: Two New Boa Constrictors Tonight I brought home two adopted Boa Constrictors. They will be three years old in February and came to us loaded with snake mites. They'll be kept in quarantine for the next 3-6 months. November 1 , 2005: Halifax Chronicle Herald's "Some People Like Snakes" At the NSHS meeting on October 17, Rick Conrad, a journalist from the Chronicle Herald interviewed some of our NSHS members. October 6, 2005: Old Yeller Adopted Out to New Home Old Yeller the Yellow Rat snake that we ended up with a couple of years ago has been adopted out to a good home. His new name is 'Scar'. September 22, 2005: Snake Ed. at New Germany High John and I played at being biology teachers today at New Germany Rural High School from 9am to 1pm. We brought along ten of our slithering friends, and had a blast speaking with the students and faculty about all things serpentine. September 6, 2005: Three New Corn Snakes Three hatchlings came home with us on the ferry from the Saint John, NB area. Two of them came from Jim of Crackedcorn.net, who we met for the first time. August 28, 2005: Snake Show at the Eastern Shore Wildlife Rehabilitation & Rescue Centre Every year for the past four, the Eastern Shore Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre has an Open House. This was J&P Serpent Gardens' debut at this event, and are booked for 2006. August 7-8, 2005: Black Rat Snakes Hatch Our first clutch of the year hatched over two days. We now have fifteen healthy Black Rat snake hatchlings that will be needing new homes. This species makes for great pet snakes. July 1, 2005: Canada Day Reptile Show This was the first year for the annually planned Canada Day Reptile Show in New Germany, Nova Scotia, made possible by the local Volunteer Fire Department, and hosted by J&P Serpent Gardens and guests. June 11, 2005: NSHS Annual Open House This year, as we have for the past six, John and I joined our fellow Nova Scotia Herpetoculture Society members for our Open House at the Museum of Natural History in Halifax from 1-5 pm. May 19, 2005: Black Rat Snake Clutch Laid Today, our Black Rat snake, Nancy, laid her first clutch of the year. There were fifteen laid in total and all appear to be viable eggs. April 11, 2005: New Snakes We brought four new snakes home today. They came from Alain of ReptileCanada.com who met with us in Halifax at a friend's house, making for a sort of impromtu snake show for them. March 14 , 2005: March Break at the Museum of Natural History We took part in the Nova Scotia Museum of Natural History's March Break festivities as representatives of the Nova Scotia Herpetoculture Society for the fourth year in a row. |
